Bible Reading Plan
Christians are Bible people. We live not by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord (Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 4:4). This means we should make Bible reading a daily habit, so that the word of Christ dwells in us richly (Colossians 3:16). This is the goal of the Bible reading plan. Just as we eat food to nourish our physical bodies, so also we should daily feed on God’s Word for the nourishment of our souls.
Following the Hebrew Old Testament order with the New Testament and Psalms placed throughout, this plan reads through the whole Bible in a school year (9 months) beginning September 2nd. Over the summer we will read through the New Testament again.
Maybe you have not read through the Bible before. This is a great place to start, as you are in good company with others following the same plan. Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you work through the Bible Reading Plan:
Start anytime! Even if you are joining in halfway through, just jump right in.
If you miss a few days or a week, don’t give up! Just pick up on today’s reading and continue from there. You will revisit all the readings you miss next year.
Of course, there are “Catch Up Days” built in if you get a day or two behind. If you are caught up on these days, read a favorite Psalm or Epistle.
All Sundays are days to “Hear the Word Preached.” We recognize the importance of the preached Word, and the saints should not neglect this means of grace.
If you are married, try reading one of the chapters with your spouse/family every day.
